Sarah began her architecture solo practice in this Berkeley Victorian while renovating and restoring it. The project includes many environmentally conscious features such as salvaged materials, (including extensive reuse of wood, recycling of the foundation slab for garden walls, and aluminum salvaged from sailboat roller furler track,) high volume fly ash concrete, recycled blue jean and recycled newspaper insulation, an on-demand water heater, dual flush toilets, energy efficient appliances, locally crafted light fixtures, windows, and countertops, 50-year roofing, zero voc and low voc paints and finishes, low maintenance and durable siding, Marmoleum flooring, drip irrigation, and more.
